Coly Faye

When I pose during a shoot, I like to create movements that recall the fluidity of water.

/// PART I: Presentation & Journey
> ALTA_SYSTEM: You have already signed with several international agencies, but you are still at the beginning of your journey. What attracted you to this profession? And how do you experience it today, with the eyes of the world upon you?

I had never thought about becoming a model. It all started somewhat by chance during my lunch break in Bordeaux. A casting director for Elite Model Look spotted me in the street and suggested I audition. I didn’t really have the time and, honestly, I didn’t see myself in this world at all at that moment.
Then, during Christmas holidays in Milan, something incredible happened: I was scouted five times in the same day by different scouts. At that moment, I told myself it was perhaps a sign… a sign that this career was meant for me, that I had to seize this opportunity and go for it. And that is how my modeling adventure began about a year ago.
What attracts me to this job is much more than the travel or the people I meet. It’s the possibility of being in front of the camera, of revealing myself differently, whereas I previously spent my life behind the lens as a photographer. It’s a way for me to express myself, to show my personality and my emotions, and to live every moment to the fullest.

> ALTA_SYSTEM: In addition to modeling, you do photography. You are both in front of and behind the lens. When looking at your social media, the first impression is that of an artist. How do you live this double posture? Do they feed into one another?

Generally, when I say I am a model, people often reply: "Ah, that doesn’t surprise me!" or "I knew it, you really had the profile." Yet, a few years ago, I would never have imagined it, and this contrast still touches me deeply.
I have always had this passion for filming and photographing everyday life, as if I had the power to stop time, to capture the essence of a moment, and to enjoy it fully. Being in front of or behind the camera allows me to share what I feel, and to make visible emotions that are sometimes invisible in daily life.

> ALTA_SYSTEM: Has the fact that you are a photographer helped you better understand how to position yourself, how to exist within the image when you are the model?

The fact that I am a photographer also gives me a real advantage: I understand what the photographer is looking for, what they want to bring out in an image, and I know exactly how to give them what they expect. This allows me to be more connected, more attentive, and more authentic in every photo, every moment.

/// PART II: Body & Movement
> ALTA_SYSTEM: During the shoot in Fontainebleau, what struck us was your relationship with your body. You seemed to sculpt it in space, with full awareness. Is this something you work on? Or do you experience it intuitively?

When I pose during a shoot, I like to create movements that recall the fluidity of water. I love swimming, and I try to reproduce that sensation in my poses, as if I were gliding through water, in free movement, a bit like a mermaid or a fish. This allows me to convey a natural grace and fluidity in my photos.
And sometimes, when I pose, I really like to be fully present in front of the camera. My poses express a message: "Look at me, I am here. I am present. Look at me." It’s a way for me to show my confidence, my personality, and my energy through every movement.

> ALTA_SYSTEM: It’s rare to see a model so physically involved in every shot. How do you approach a shoot? Do you prepare mentally? Do you improvise? Do you dance with the location?

Before a shoot, I never get stressed. I tell myself it’s a moment to express myself and to meet people who are going to make me feel unique. Because that’s what modeling is: when you are booked for a job, the team makes you feel like a star, like you are truly special. And that puts you at ease; you give the best of yourself to give back what they have given you.

> ALTA_SYSTEM: You wore technical clothing in a natural environment, far from a studio, with changing weather, materials, and light. What does that change in your way of moving, posing, and embodying a garment? Did it allow for another form of expression?

This shoot project in a forest with clothes like Oakley was one of my greatest experiences in modeling. Even though I don’t have a huge amount of experience yet, for me, it will remain engraved in my memory. In this industry, unique experiences are rare. There is a lot of competition and aspects that are sometimes difficult or not very visible. So, being able to live positive moments like this one is truly a pleasure and makes the career even more precious.

/// PART III: Projects & Vision
> ALTA_SYSTEM: You launched “Bordeaux is Fashion,” a project that blends community, events, and a celebration of style. How was this idea born? And what vision do you carry through this project?

Modeling has also opened my mind and given me many ideas, like the project I just launched: Bordeaux is Fashion. During my trips to Milan or Paris, I noticed something: the experiences, the light, the incredible moments I was living in fashion, I couldn't find them in Bordeaux.

That’s why I wanted to bring that energy and passion for fashion back to Bordeaux, to let people who haven't had the chance to experience them yet, or who don't know this world yet, discover these unique moments. That is why I created Bordeaux is Fashion.

> ALTA_SYSTEM: Your slogan “Dare to shine today to create the opportunities of tomorrow” is powerful. Can you tell us where it comes from? And how do you apply it to your own path?

And to summarize what I want to transmit through my journey and my projects, my slogan is "Dare to shine today to create the opportunities of tomorrow." Many people are afraid to show themselves, to reveal their light, or to share their abilities for fear of being judged by others. But I think that if we accept who we are and dare to shine, if we dare to shine, then our tomorrow will be even brighter.

/// PART IV: Alta/Nova & Future
> ALTA_SYSTEM: What did you think of the Alta/Nova project and the shoot? Even if you haven’t seen the final result yet, what struck you, touched you, or surprised you? And finally, Colly, what can we wish you for the future? What do you want to build, live, or defend in the years to come?

Regarding my future, I don’t know exactly what it holds for me yet. But I hope to shine once again with you, to have the opportunity to live these magnificent experiences again, and that people will believe in Alta/Nova as I believe in it, and as all the people I work with believe in it as well.
