Shakib Djekboubi

I felt less like Shakib in the literal sense and more like the Shakib of my imagination.

/// PART I: Grounding & Location
> ALTA_SYSTEM: Fontainebleau is a very specific setting: mineral, imposing, chaotic. Coly spoke about fluidity, but with you, we felt you were very grounded, almost as solid as the rock itself. How did you approach this playground? Does nature inspire calm in you, or the desire to push your limits?

I think that nature pushes me just as much to surpass myself as it does to be calm when necessary; for example, when I was running through the trees with the balaclava for that sense of self-surpassing. The photos in symbiosis with the woods were for the calm side.

/// PART II: Style & Attitude
> ALTA_SYSTEM: The styling mixed very technical pieces (like Oakley) with this wild environment. It sometimes gives the impression of seeing a modern "armor." Does wearing this kind of clothing change your posture or your attitude in front of the lens? Do you feel more like a "warrior" in this look?

Yes, clearly. Once dressed in all the pieces and accessories, I saw myself as a superhero straight out of a comic book. I felt less like Shakib in the literal sense and more like the Shakib of my imagination.

/// PART III: Expression & Format
> ALTA_SYSTEM: The modeling profession is multifaceted; it involves several forms of expression. What fundamentally differentiates the energy of a runway from that of an outdoor shoot like this one? Do you summon the same emotions when you walk on a podium as when you construct a still image in the heart of nature?

I think the biggest difference between a fashion show and a shoot like this lies in the attitude. During Fashion Week, my primary goal was to showcase the pieces of my outfit through my walk, my gaze, and my energy on stage; the attitude I projected was mostly confidence. With the outdoor shoot, I gave free rein to my impulses as well as the emotions the environment provided me, which gave a much more natural and wild aspect to my behavior.

/// PART IV: The Feeling & art
> ALTA_SYSTEM: If you had to keep just one mental image or one single sensation from this day of shooting with the Alta/Nova team, which would it be?

I would mostly keep one location: the spot at the end of the day at the very top of the forest with the panoramic view. It was just splendid; the shots looked incredible, I can't wait to admire them.

> ALTA_SYSTEM: You also make music. We often see bridges between fashion and music. Do these two passions feed into each other? Do you have an internal "rhythm" when you pose, like you would have on an instrumental track?

Yes, totally. I am as inspired by fashion in my music as I am by my music in fashion. Whether it's through the visual aspect of my outfits for clips/videos or directly from brands, clothing, etc., embedded in my lyrics. I don't know if it's the same "inner rhythm" that beats while I'm on the runway and while I'm behind the mic, but I do know that I feel that same excitement and sensation of being alive at both those moments.
